Philippine Sports Commission Chair William Ramirez has met with his fellow members of the screening committee that will make sure that all athletes who will be enshrined in the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame (PSHOF) will be deserving of their inclusion.

Ramirez recently convened the committee that includes Edwin Gastanes, Philippine Olympic Committee secretary general; Abraham Mitra, Games and Amusement Board chair; Avelino Sumagui, Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines secretary general; Akiko Thomson Guevara, Philippine Olympians Association president; and UAAP executive director Rene Saguisag Jr.

“This is good that we met early, so we have ample time to study the nominations,’’ Ramirez said. “We will make sure the athletes that the screening committee will pick deserve to be there.’’

The suggestion to automatically include previous eligible nominees who failed to make the final cut will be adopted while the body agreed to craft recommendations to amend the PSHOF law.

According to Ramirez, Filipinos from all walks of life can nominate their sports idols, who were active from 1924 to 1994, to the PSHOF, which will hold its awards night on Nov. 5.
