MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas entered the winners’ circle in emphatic fashion following a complete dismantling of Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-16, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 82 women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Golden Tigresses rebounded from a five-set loss to National University and joined the Lady Tamaraws, defending champion Ateneo, and University of the Philippines in third with 1-1 records.
Establishing an early 9-2 lead in the third, the ladies in gold cruised for much of the period with substitute players getting the chance to close out the match for the Golden Tigresses.
FEU made things interesting with a 6-0 run to get within six, 23-17, before Ysa Jimenez stepped in and gave UST a 24-17 lead. Babylove Barbon then finished things off with a quick kill from the middle.
“We recovered today and we had a good service game going on and although there were lapses, which are inevitable, we were able to correct those mistakes,” said UST head coach Kung Fu Reyes in Filipino.
“This was a total team effort so we were able to get this in straight sets.”
Eya Laure finished with 16 points to lead UST while older sister EJ added 12.
Jeanette Villareal and Grace Carandang had seven points apiece for FEU.
