————————-No less than Juan Manuel Marquez, Pacquiao’s legendary Mexican rival, has said it.
Marquez, 46 and retired, declared Pacquiao, the legend, needs to square off with a legendary next opponent.
Article continues after this advertisementMarquez mentioned two names, Errol Spence and Terence Crawford, not necessarily in that order, as best suited for Pacquiao’s next foe.
He praised Pacquiao as a legend who fights at the highest level, adding he would like to see Pacquiao unify the other champions in the welterweight division.
Spence owns the IBF and WBC world welterweight crown, while Crawford is the WBO 147-pound title holder.
“Pacquiao could fight Crawford or Spence, it would be a great fight,” Marquez told Fight Hype TV.
————————-Latest reports however, showed Mikey Garcia a lead contender to snatch a super fight against Pacquiao. Garcia is coming in fresh from a tough outing against former world champion Jessie Vargas, whom Pacquiao had previously
beaten.
Reports said there’s available Saudi Arabia money to fund a Jeddah fight between Pacquiao and Garcia.
Eddie Hearn of Matchroom said they are eyeing a July Pacquiao-Garcia bout.
————————-Mikey Garcia, a four-division world title winner, continued to cry he would like to share the boxing ring with a legend, thereby singling out Pacquiao.
But former world champion Robert Garcia, Mikey’s elder brother and trainer, said there are still things to be corrected and improved in Mikey’s
arsenal.
“I still see little things that Mikey needs to improve, if he makes them then we really get a good shot” the older of the fighting Garcia brothers said.
“Manny is dangerous, the real deal,” he added.
Not surprisingly, Robert Garcia was quick to claim Mikey could soon be ready and best suited to fight Pacquiao.
Nothing clear on Spence, after he suffered injuries in a car crash, while Crawford remains a big doubt due to managerial differences.
————————-Spence did beat Mikey Garcia last year in a lopsided clash.
Spence exposed glaring faults in Mikey who was wholly flat and tentative in that bout.
But the solid showing against Vargas bared vast maturity and greater promise.
Robert Garcia is confident his younger brother could rise and improve sufficiently en route to providing a perfect challenge against Pacquiao.
Mikey Garcia did display great poise against Vargas, how to ward off the hellish pressure once he’s put under constant siege by Pacquiao remains a big question. INQ
