Suba, Rivera stun Tsui, Reyes

VJ SUBA and Milo Rivera posted a surprise 1-2 finish in the kickoff leg of the 2012 Petron Karting Super Series held recently at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite.

Suba, who submitted the fastest lap time of 45.732 seconds, wrapped up the 20-lap race in 16 minutes and 28.803 seconds, with Rivera checking in 2.553 seconds behind.

Prerace favorite CJ Tsui, 16, topped the qualifying heat while Franco Reyes slipped past Suba in the last 600 meters to rule the Pre-Final race.

But Suba grabbed the pole as the lights flashed green and banked on his defensive maneuvers to hold off Reyes in the first 13 laps.

After younger brother Estefano was slowed down by engine problems, Rivera took over and moved to third behind Reyes.

Reyes, however, also experienced mechnical trouble, paving the way for Suba and Rivera to contest the titles in the ROK Overall and ROK Senior divisions. Javi Benitez finished third.

Estefano settled for runner-up honors behind Daniel Miranda in the ROK Junior class.

In other divisions, Jaz Monzones ruled the ROK Novice race, Nike Mora topped the SQ Veterans and Michael Jordan won the SQ Novice class. Steve Silva, Contributor
