Badminton Asia Championships in Manila postponed

MANILA, Philippines — The Badminton Asia Championships 2020 has been pushed back indefinitely due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The tournament, which was originally scheduled in Wuhan, China, was moved to Manila supposedly to take place from April 21-26.

But the continuous spread of the deadly virus, left the Badminton World Federation with no choice but to suspend all of its tournaments for the next two months.

“The health, safety, and well-being of all athletes, their entourage, officials and the greater badminton community remain as the top priority,” BWF said in a statement.

The Thomas and Uber Cup, the European Championships, Pan Am Individual Championships, Croatian International, and Peru International have also been postponed.

The Philippine Badminton Association gained the hosting rites of the singles Asian Championships on the heels of a successful staging of the 2020 Badminton Asia Team Championships in Manila last February.
