FRANKIE Lim has reportedly quit as coach of the San Beda men’s basketball team on the heels of the decision of the NCAA to suspend him for two years for his role in a brawl during a women’s volleyball match last December.
No formal announcement has been made either by the school or Lim but sources said the multititled coach had bade farewell to his players during practice yesterday at San Beda.
Lim, who is also a former Lion steered the Lions to four NCAA titles in five seasons.
Under Lim, the Lions made the finals in each of his five seasons, highlighted by an 18-0 record on their way to the title in 2010.
Rumors are rife that Ateneo high school coach Jamike Jarin and Meralco assistant coach Ronnie Magsanoc could replace Lim.
San Beda forward Rome dela Rosa waxed emotional over Lim’s departure. “Thanks for everything coach, for being a mentor and a father figure,” the player said on Twitter.
The suspension slapped on Lim and San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb stemmed from the brawl that broke out during an NCAA volley game at the St. Placid’s Gym in San Beda while the Lions were working out last December.
