MANILA, Philippines — The PBA on Monday said engaging in team-related activities has been suspended indefinitely.
In a memorandum shared to teams, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial extended the league’s two-week ban on activities such as practices and scrimmages initially set to end on March 27 due to the continuous spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.
“In light of the country’s current situation, the Office of the Commissioner is extending all its member teams’ two-week break from practices, scrimmages and other related activities which was supposed to end March 27, until further notice,” Marcial said.
“Declaration no. 929 places the whole country under state of calamity and the nation’s capital under ‘enhanced quarantine’. We ask your full cooperation and compliance and encourage everyone to stay fit and healthy in the confines and safety of their homes.”
As of posting time, the number of confirmed cases in the Philippines has risen to 462, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Monday afternoon.
The entire Luzon island also remains under “enhanced community quarantine.”
“Please continue to follow the guidelines set by our government health workers and standby for updates,” said Marcial, who suspended the league’s 45th season on March 9.
