MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Superliga has pushed back the resumption of the 2020 Grand Prix until further notice due to the continuous spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.
“After careful evaluation of the current COVID-19 situation and in consultation with the eight Team Owners, considering the uncertainty of the duration of the community quarantine imposed by the National Government, the 2020 Grand Prix Conference will be reset to a later date,” the PSL announced in its website Monday.
The league also urged its players to spend the time off with their families at home while Luzon remains placed under “enhanced community quarantine.”
“Teams are hereby advised to encourage their local players and overseas player to go home and be with their loved ones as health and safety are the top priorities during these trying times.”
Team owners are also expected to hold a “special” meeting once the lockdown is lifted.
“If and when the ‘lockdown’ has been lifted and sporting events warrant its staging, PSL will immediately organize a special team-owners meeting to plan next step moving forward.”
