MANILA, Philippines—Jon Jones, the reigning UFC World light heavyweight champion, had another brush with law enforcement after he was arrested on Thursday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
According to CNN.com, Jones was slapped with driving while intoxicated charge.
As per the report, an Albuquerque police officer heard a gunshot in the area and caught up with Jones’ vehicle where the officer found an open bottle of alcohol, a loaded gun beneath the driver’s seat and a spent bullet casing.
The UFC has been informed of the situation of Jones’ arrest.
In a TMZ report, it said that Jones was subsequently released and has a bond arraignment court date for April 9.
Jones was also arrested for drunk driving in 2012 and pled guilty to drinking under the influence after crashing his car into a pole in New York.
The 32-year-old champion also pled guilty to a hit-and-run that caused him to be put on probation and stripped him of his heavyweight along with a suspension from the UFC.
In October 2019 Jones took a plea deal when he was charged with battery after allegedly assaulting a cocktail waitress in a strip club where he reportedly slapped her genital area and putting her in a chokehold.
