Tigresses lend hand to front-liners

The standouts of the University of Santo Tomas team that finished second in the UAAP Season 80 girls’ volleyball tournament have auctioned off their jerseys to support the medical front-liners in their battle against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Former Santo Tomas girls stars Eya Laure, Imee Hernandez, Maj Mangulabnan, Janna Torres and Det Pepito donated their jerseys on Sunday and will be auctioned off as a set at the Every Little Thing Counts Facebook page, which was set up to help the fight against COVID-19 by providing protective equipment for medical front-liners.

After graduating from the junior ranks, Laure, Hernandez, Mangulabnan and Torres remained loyal to UST, joining the senior Tigresses team of coach Kungfu Reyes. Laure was named rookie of the year in Season 81. Pepito, a four-time UAAP juniors best libero, is playing out her final year in high school. The starting bid for the set was pegged at P5,000.

Also donating her jersey to the cause was former La Salle superstar Ara Galang, whose Lady Spikers jersey opened up at P2,000.

Galang’s auction ends on April 2 at 12 noon while the UST girls’ jerseys will be up for bidding until 12 noon of April 3. INQ
