Mikey to fight Manny like JuanMa did

Four-division world champion Mikey Garcia has told Boxing Scene he would approach Manny Pacquiao in a similar manner Juan Manuel Marquez did.

Garcia, 32, has been trying his best to lure the 41-year-old Pacquiao into a showdown.

After he beat Jessie Vargas in late February, Garcia said he would go anywhere in the world to be able to fight Pacquiao.

————————- “Paquiao is very aggressive, very experienced, very strong. But I look at it as an opportunity for me to fight very smart and try to counter-punch similar to the way Marquez fought Manny,” Garcia explained.

Garcia described Marquez as very intelligent and a great counter-puncher.

“I think it will be very similar in that I can find a way to use my intelligence, my counter-punching abilities against Pacquiao, a legend,” Garcia said.

————————-Pacquiao and Marquez fought four times, the first bout ending in a draw, before Marquez lost two successive controversial decisions.

In their fourth and final fight in December 2012, Pacquiao was knocked out cold and flat in the sixth round by Marquez. There came a clamor for a fifth meeting between the vicious rivals, but Marquez has glamorously avoided the challenge, despite the lure of a monumental payday.

————————-The first thing Garcia did after his victory over Vargas, former WBO welterweight champion, was call out Pacquiao.

Next came reports the influential Eddie Hearn of Matchroom was negotiating with rich backers to bring the Pacquiao-Garcia clash in Saudi Arabia.Pacquiao, for his part, has expressed desire to return to the ring in July.

This was before the coronavirus mess would develop into a contagion now threatening the whole world.

It’s unclear whether or not a Pacquiao-Garcia fight would ever take place.

Pacquiao fought last in July, when he struggled to earn a split decision over the

previously unbeaten Keith Thurman.

Pacquiao knocked down Thurman in the first round of that brutal encounter. INQ
