PH bowling ‘godfather’ Alex Lim dies from COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Bowling godfather Alexander Lim became the first casualty from Philippine sports in the country’s battle against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Philippine Bowling Federation treasurer and trustee passed away on Wednesday morning. He was 63.

“It is with extreme sadness that Philippine bowling’s benefactor extraordinaire joined our Creator,” said PBF president Steve Robles. “He is everybody’s friend, big brother, manong and Tito A.”

Lim is the chairman of the PBF youth committee, whose objective is to scout and find talents and develop them into world-class bowlers.

“Alex is a big loss to the bowling community. He truly is bowling’s benefactor and godfather,” said Bong Coo, the most decorated Filipino athlete and current PBF secretary general.

Besides spearheading the association’s grassroots program, Lim is a member of the powerful Asian Bowling Federation Executive Committee. He also functioned as PBF secgen before Coo took over.
