PSI shifts efforts to helping fight COVID-19

Philippine swimming had a tight schedule that was dotted with tournaments and seminars that would have ran week after week for the rest of the year.

That included the now postponed Tokyo Olympics and the 11th Asian championships that the country was supposed to host in November. But with everything in a standstill, the Philippine Swimming Inc. (PSI) is refocusing itself.

“If anything, this is bringing out the best in us all,” said PSI president Lani Velasco. “But we choose to keep our community connections strong and model the behavior we want our leaders to adopt.”

Velasco facilitated the donation of mattresses from the Philippine Sports Commission to different hospitals.

Velasco also continued the salaries of PSI employees despite the shutdown of operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also donating face masks that were made from her home by herself and her staff.

“It is important to care for one another while staying safe as our family, friends, colleagues and neighbors navigate this uncharted territory,” Velasco added.
