BROTHERS Edwin and Edison Cayco pulled the rug from under the favorites to score separate victories in the second leg of the 2012 Philippine Drag Racing Championships Northern Series held recently at the Clark International Speedway.
Edwin captured the M&H Super Pro class crown and finished second in the Quick 8 while younger brother Edison bagged the M&H Pro title.
The Caycos gave credit to H3 Autoworks tuner Bong Hilario who made sure their machines were in perfect condition.
Edwin was decidedly the underdog in the M&H Super Pro contest after losing the Quick 8 plum with a time of 10.992 seconds to former US serviceman Bill Hand, who clocked 10.278.
When they met anew in the finals, Edwin’s game plan was to just enjoy the speed.
Hand, maximizing his engine’s power, lapsed into a breakout violation, allowing Edwin to steal victory in 11.073 seconds.
Edison, on the other hand, struggled in the early goings against defending champion Martin Manalo and Billy Pangandamun, who rose from the loser’s circle to make the semifinals.
A red-light violation ended Pangadamun’s hopes as Edison pulled off the win in 11.212 seconds. Christopher Sheaves was second in 11.491 seconds. Steve Silva, Contributor
