MANILA, Philippines — Jack Animam has always stepped up whenever the situation needed it inside the basketball court. It’s also the case when the opportunity to help came knocking, she didn’t hesitate to answer the call.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck her hometown of Malolos in Bulacan, Animam sprung into action and launched a fundraising drive for the medical staff of Bulacan Medical Center.

Animam, a Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist in the 5×5 and 3×3 basketball tournaments, saw that the staff of BMC badly needed personal protective equipment and she decided to help in her own way.

“BMC is near our home and I saw that a lot of patients come to them so I thought why not make a fundraiser for the frontliners here in Bulacan,” said Animam in Filipino.

“It’s just a little help in exchange for their sacrifices.”

So far, Animam has raised P38,500 and she’s still accepting donations.

As part of the national team, Animam said she has a bigger responsibility than just playing the sport of basketball.

“Being part of the national team does not mean you only have to do your part on the court, you have to do your part as a Filipino citizen especially if you have a platform you can use,” said Animam.
