The Muaythai Association of the Philippines understands the necessity to supply more financial help for their athletes and coaches.
Retired Gen. Lucas Managuelod, the country’s muay thai chief, approved on Wednesday a supplemental allowance of P5,000 each that will benefit over 30 athletes and coaches amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine brought about by the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“We recognize the hardships and sacrifice that our athletes and coaches continue to make in ensuring that they remain dedicated to their responsibilities and expectations of their governing bodies,’’ Managuelod said.
The additional monetary aid for the muay thai national pool was meant to augment the monthly allowances of athletes and coaches given by the Philippine Sports Commission.
“We know that the past few weeks have been difficult and challenging for our fellow Filipinos. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought uncertainties for the future that affect the overall well-being of everyone,’’ Managuelod said.
