ONE postpones all May events due to virus
MANILA, Philippines — ONE Championship chief Chatri Sityodtong on Monday announced the postponement of all ONE events scheduled in May until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sityodtong said the suspension is indefinite as the safety of ONE’s stakeholders remains the top priority as the world continues to grapple with the deadly virus.
“All May events for ONE Championship will be postponed until further notice due to the recent COVID-19 developments (border closings and lockdowns) across most countries in Asia,” Sityodtong wrote on Facebook.
“Our highest priority remains the safety and health of our athletes, officials, staff, fans, and the public during these challenging times. My team and I are working around the clock on multiple options to bring back our events as soon as safely possible. Stay tuned for news! #WeAreONE”
ONE was supposed to hold its “Infinity” series on May 29 in Manila where Brandon Vera was slated to defend his heavyweight title in his first fight since losing to Aung La N Sang in a light heavyweight bout last October.
The last time ONE held an event was back on February 28 at an empty Singapore Indoor Stadium.
