MPBL postpones next season’s opening indefinitely, but vows Lakan Cup finish
With its Lakan Season still unfinished due to the COVID-19 pandemic and sports events prohibited when the country moved into general community quarantine, the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) has decided to push back its usual Independence Day opening on June 12 to later date.
League commissioner Kenneth Duremdes has already sent a memorandum to the 31 teams, informing them of the suspension of the opening next season until further notice.
“This unfortunate global circumstance has put all our endeavors on hold,” Duremdes said in a memorandum to teams. “However, we assure you that the present Lakan Season shall have its conclusion prior to the next season opening and the MPBL management is doing its best to serve the interest of the league given the situation.”
