MANILA, Philippines — University of Santo Tomas guard Mark Nonoy is making the most out of the long break by doing charity work during the coronavirus pandemic.
Staying in his hometown of La Carlota, Negros Occidental, Nonoy joined the fight against COVID-19 by helping those who serve the frontlines.
Nonoy, the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball Rookie of the Year, prepared and distributed hundreds of packed meals to military and barangay personnel of Barangay II (Poblacion), who are manning the checkpoints in their community.
“I really want to help these people who are making such sacrifices just to make us safe,” said Nonoy.
As a 20-year-old student, Nonoy used his savings as well as contributions from his family and friends to fund his outreach program.
Nonoy said that caring for the frontliners is just not much compared to those who continue to put their lives and health on the line for the safety and welfare of many.
“I thought to myself that I really don’t have any problem inside our house when it comes to food so I decided to help our frontliners who are making due sacrifices everyday,” said Nonoy.
