Meralco rules Batang PBA

MANILA—Dave Ildefonso and diminutive Wilson Lagaras presided on a second half tear as Meralco-Quezon City crushed Talk ‘N Text-Taytay, 72-30, yesterday in the championship match of the 2011 Batang PBA Summer League championship at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

With the Batang Bolts up by nine in the second period, Ildefonso and Lagaras joined hands in a 20-2 run that greased the Batang Bolts’ path to a fifth straight championship.

Prince Carlos led a balanced Meralco scoring with 14 points.

“Maganda lang ang nilaro ng mga bata,” said winning coach Mark Herrera, whose charges have established a dynasty in the league for kids 9 to 12 years old.

In the other game, Gian Carlo Villaflor scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter as Petron Blaze-Manila held off gritty Rain or Shine-San Juan, 57-51, to salvage third place.
