MANILA, Philippines—WWE’s “The Man” is now The Mom.
Becky Lynch, real life Rebecca Quin, announced her pregnancy on Monday Night Raw [Tuesday Manila time] and said she will be stepping away from the ring for some time.
She also relinquished the Raw Women’s title, a championship she has held for 398 days after pinning Ronda Rousey in the main event of Wrestlemania 35, to Money in the Bank winner Asuka in a tearful moment.
In a complete swerve, Lynch told an incensed Asuka, real life Kanako Urai, that she’d automatically become the show’s female champion instead of earning a shot at the title after winning the ladder match in the titular pay-per-view event.
Lynch carried Asuka’s brief case to the ring before opening it to award the title to the Empress of Tomorrow in a heartfelt moment.
“The match last night, it wasn’t what you thought it was, it wasn’t for an opportunity to win the championship it was for so much more. The match last night was actually for the Raw Women’s Championship,” Lynch told Asuka.
“Now I can’t fight anymore, but you can, you are the champion. As happy as you are as the champion I might be a little bit happier. You go be a warrior, because I’m gonna go be a mother.”
Lynch then walked away from the ring leaving Asuka to celebrate the news and her title before telling the camera “I’ll miss you guys” in an empty WWE Performance Center—the promotion’s venue for its shows during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lynch got engaged to then Universal Champion Seth Rollins, real life Colby Lopez, in August 2019, becoming an instant power couple in the promotion.
“I have no idea what happens from here, but I do know that you’ve made all my dreams come true. I entered the PC in 2013 not knowing anyone; I’ll leave that same building tonight with my new family. Thank you all so much,” tweeted Lynch.
WWE chief brand officer Stephanie McMahon took to Twitter to congratulate Lynch with Superstars Bella Twins, Nikkie and Brie, Maryse Mizanin—all of whom are moms also Charlotte Flair, Carmella, Natalya Neidhart, Bayley, Peyton Royce, and Billie Kay also honoring The Man.
