Del Rosario proposes ‘Quarantine Cup’ for PBA resumption

MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra assistant coach Richard del Rosario has put forth a proposal on how the PBA can resume the season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a video addressed to the PBA Board of Governors and Commissioner Willie Marcial, Del Rosario proposed a “Quarantine Cup” that will allow the league to resume as long as health protocols are followed.

Part of his proposal is rapid testing for teams along with broadcast and media personnel. If negative, players can be quarantined together in what could serve as a “training camp.”

Those who test positive for the virus will have to be sent to a medical facility or to their homes.

Del Rosario also proposed that games be played smaller facilities that won’t allow fans such as Upper Deck Sports Center, Moro Lorenzo Sports Center, or Ronac Arts Center.

“The PBA will be a pioneer in returning professional sports and provide a model for other leagues to follow,” he said. “More importantly, the resumption of the league will mean jobs to the daily wage earners who depend on the PBA.”
