MANILA, Philippines—Big Chill stiffled Cebuana Lhuillier in the fourth period and got away with a 68-52 rout Monday in the second game of 2012 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Arena in San Juan.
The Superchargers held the Gems scoreless for six minutes then scattered 13 unanswered points to seal their third victory of the conference under the new head coach Robert Sison.
“The boys responded to my call. We started with defense and the offense followed,” said Sison, who took over the coaching reins after the squad’s first loss.
Mac Montilla and Mar Villahermosa kickstarted the rout with back-to-back triples before Jewel Ponferrada piled on points down the stretch to widen Big Chill’s lead.
Mallari and Keith Jensen led the Superchangers, who drew at least a point from most of the roster expect one, with nine points apiece.
Cebuana Lhuillier was dealt its first loss of the conference, failing to find the groove and fluidity in offense all game long.
In the curtain raiser, Jr Powerade clawed back from a 10-point halftime deficit to trounce still-winless Cagayan, 67-61.
Trailing by 26-36 at the half, the Tigers—whose core is made up of the UP Fighting Maroons—doubled their effort in the third quarter and snatched the lead away for good.
Alvin Padilla took over the second half by pouring down all but one of his 19 points while Mark Lopez registered a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
It was Jr Powerade’s second victory while the Rising Suns drop to 0-3.
