PBA scraps All-Star festivities due to coronavirus
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Basketball Association said this year’s All-Star festivities will not push through due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The PBA All-Star was supposed to be held this July in Passi, Iloilo.
“For sure because we can only play just one conference [this year],” said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial in Filipino during Tuesday’s webcast of the PSA Forum.
Article continues after this advertisement“As of now, the All-Star is canceled. We’ll just resume it by next year,” he added.
Marcial said he still plans to hold next year’s All-Star in Passi.
The league only managed to play just one game before deciding to shut down its 45th season on March 11 due to COVID-19.
Article continues after this advertisementMarcial, though, remains optimistic that the PBA will be able to return in the next several months.
“Seven to eight we will push through. For me, we’re going to be able to play this year even for just one conference.”
