Liverpool part-owner LeBron James celebrates Premier League title

MANILA, Philippines—NBA superstar LeBron James has added another achievement under his storied name—Premier League champion.

Sort of.

James, a minority owner of Liverpool, celebrated the club’s latest English Premier League title that ended a 30-year drought on Friday.

The three-time NBA champion and four-time MVP has a two percent stake in the illustrious club, which didn’t even need to set foot on the field to take home the crown.

“PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!” posted James with 14 more exclamation marks and several emojis including the trophy and crown. “LET’S GO.”

James, who’s still in the conversation of the best player in the NBA despite being 35, bought his share of the club in 2011 when he was just on his seventh year in the league.

Liverpool clinched the title with seven games left to be played in the season as the Reds’ 86 points in the table proved to be already insurmountable for second place and last year’s champion Manchester City which is at 63 points.

Chelsea, a fierce rival of Liverpool’s, handed the defending European champions its first Premier League trophy when it beat City 2-1 after goals from Christian Pulisic and Willian.

The Blues’ victory over City could also be sweet retribution for Liverpool after Chelsea denied it of what could’ve been its first Premier League title back in 2014.

In one of the closest races ever, Liverpool finished second in the table with 84 points to City’s 86 in the 2014 season while Chelsea finished third at 82 points.
