MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra forward Japeth Aguilar and Rain or Shine rookie Adrian Wong were summoned by the PBA Commissioner’s office after they were seen on video playing basketball with a group amid the community quarantine in Manila.
It was only on Friday that the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-IED) gave the green light for sports like basketball and football to resume practices amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Initially, contact and team sports were not allowed under general community quarantine, which Metro Manila is in.
Aguilar and Wong were seen playing in a private gym with Japan-bound Thirdy Ravena, Gilas program center Isaac Go and other players. Videos were posted on Instagram on Wednesday.
Marcial said he will meet with Aguilar and Wong on Monday to discuss the possible violations.
“Adrian and Japeth will come to the PBA Office on Monday, I haven’t watched the video clearly so I can’t impose a punishment yet,” said Marcial on Filipino. “They, of course, have to explain their side first.”
Marcial said that since Go is still not a PBA player, he can’t be summoned to the PBA Office but talked to the former Ateneo standout and advised him to be careful with his actions.
Go was drafted into the PBA through the Gilas Draft but he remains under the supervision of the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas as part of the pool and not with Columbian—the team that selected him.
