UAAP officially wraps up Season 82 with virtual closing ceremony

MANILA, Philippines — A virtual closing ceremony will be held to officially mark the end of UAAP Season 82.

The special online event set on Saturday, 4 p.m., will be shown live on the ABS-CBN Sports’ website, Facebook and YouTube accounts.

The ceremony puts the spotlight on the eight member schools and the athletes, especially those who excelled and those who were not able to complete their season due to the cancelation of games.

“What will be shown during the closing ceremony is just to highlight that, one, as a community, as a nation, we are here to help everyone, that’s one. And two, to show that the athletes who weren’t able to play or finish the season, they are part of Season 82,” said UAAP Season 82 president Em Fernandez of host school Ateneo.

The UAAP ultimately decided to scrap the remainder of Season 82 on April 7 following several postponements due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Second semester sports such as volleyball, football, baseball, softball, track and field, lawn tennis, and 3×3 basketball were either not completed or did not start at all.

The cancelation also prevented the UAAP from naming an Athlete of the Year.

Also during the ceremony, University of Santo Tomas will be awarded as general champions for both the high school and seniors divisions. UST clinched the overall high school title for the sixth consecutive time and bagged the seniors crown for the fourth straight year.

The UAAP will also recognize the schools and athletes for their efforts and charity work during the pandemic.
