MANILA, Philippines — De La Salle University is expected to face a challenging task in hosting next year’s UAAP season under the new normal brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

The deadly disease, which forced the country’s premier collegiate league to cancel the remainder of its 82nd Season in April, will now put tremendous pressure on a game La Salle as it picks up the pieces.

“As we close Season 82, we are grateful to all those who gave their all to make Season 82 possible. And it is with honor that we turn over the hosting of UAAP Season 83 to De La Salle University,” said Ateneo University president Fr. Jett Villarin, SJ, who served as this season’s chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Villarin formally turned over the hosting to his La Salle counterpart Bro. Raymundo Suplido, FSC. during the UAAP Season 82 closing ceremony which took place virtually and was aired live on ABS-CBN Sports’ website and Facebook and YouTube accounts Saturday.

“For the love of sports, we have to challenge ourselves to continue to excel. It is important that we do so with resilience and fortitude,” said Suplido, who also bared the motto for Season 83 which is “Fully Alive, Champions for Life.”

“Also, we must plan and play but with safety and prudence in our minds so that we do not risk the health and safety of our members.”

The abrupt end to Season 82 affected seven collegiate events such as indoor volleyball, football, baseball, softball, athletics, lawn tennis, and 3×3 basketball.

COVID-19 also pushed back the start of Season 83 to early next year.
