‘Find solution,’ Mikee tells POC

International Olympic Committee executive board member Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski believes that love for country—and for sports—should take precedence more than anything else if the current dispute in the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) is to be solved.

“There’s always a solution. We must not give up. We just need to be patient for us to reach a solution that is acceptable to everyone,” Cojuangco-Jaworski said during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum where she talked about the latest issue within the local body.

The arguments for the suggested age limit of POC officials and the reorganization of the POC executive board where the chair and immediate past president have been proposed to be removed have hit a wall right from the beginning with no sight of progress at all.

“We have to come out of this understanding each other and be able to explain to everybody the rationale behind the proposal,” Cojuangco-Jaworski said.

A two-thirds vote is necessary from the 13-man board for the passage of these issues, but majority of the board members frown on the recommended age restriction of 70 to 75 years old.

The other key amendments include disallowing persons to hold the position of president in more than one NSA (national sports association) and the withdrawal of recognition on NSAs that are no longer affiliated with their international federations. INQ
