PSC: 145 priority athletes must produce

/ 10:02 PM April 10, 2012

PHILIPPINE Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia has warned that anything less than a medal finish for each of the 145 priority athletes in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar will be unacceptable considering the generous government support they are bound to receive.

The PSC has earmarked P200 million for the athletes in the country’s bid to win more gold medals and erase the memory of a disappointing sixth-place finish in the 2011 Games in Indonesia.

“They will have all the opportunities to thrive and improve their skills, so I see no reason why they shouldn’t win more medals,” said Garcia.

A total of 29 champions, 45 silver and 71 bronze medalists in Indonesia comprise the priority athletes named by the PSC. June Navarro
