MANILA, Philippines—Fifa President Gianni Infantino sent his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of football prospect Alyana Bautista who died of complications from COVID-19 on July 23.
Infantino sent his letter through Philippine Football Federation President Mariano Araneta Jr., who is also a Fifa council member.
“Words seems inadequate to express the sadness we feel for this loss affecting Philippine football,” wrote Infantino.
“Her legacy and achievements, and in particular her personality and her human qualities will not be forgotten, and she will be truly missed,” added Infantino. “We hope that these memories and our words of support may help bring some peace and solace at this difficult time.”
Bautista was a graduate of Miriam High School before suiting up for Ateneo in college and played for Nomads FC in the PFF Women’s League in 2019.
She’s also the younger sister of Martie Bautista, a member of the Philippine women’s national football team and a commentator in the Philippines Football League.
