Ateneo, CKS dribblers banner Fr. Martin field

Reigning Tiong Lian champion Chiang Kai Shek slugs it out with the finest high school teams in Metro Manila in the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup starting Sunday at the San Beda gym in Mendiola, Manila.

The Blazing Dragons, with the touted John Kevin Baytan in the fold, will be one of the attractions on opening day as they face the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs at 12 noon.

CKS is one of 18 teams seeing action in the high school division. Sixteen teams make up the roster in the collegiate division, while six squads are vying in the women’s division.

The tournament has lured UAAP seniors and juniors champion Ateneo along with NCAA juniors titlist San Beda, La Salle, Far Eastern U, Adamson and University of the East. The other NCAA teams in the field are Letran, Perpetual Help and Jose Rizal U.

Baytan, the Tiong Lian Finals MVP, will lead the Dragons’ attack, along with point guard Carlo Young and slotman Wilson Bartolome.

The three players are coming off a stint in Taiwan, where they played in a series of games representing Tiong Lian All-Stars.

In the other games, the Adamson Baby Falcons duel the National College of Business and Arts Junior Wildcats at 9 a.m. and the Jose Rizal U Light Bombers battle the Jesus Is Lord Christian Foundation cagers at 10:30 a.m.
