Help continues to pour in for Filipino athletes who will feel the financial pressure of the postponed Tokyo Olympics.
The MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF) handed 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz P1.5 million to help cover additional expenses foisted on her camp by the Games’ postponement.
The Olympics were supposed to be held this year but was moved to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was due to these unforeseen circumstances that we at MVPSF decided that it was best to realign our support to cover Hidilyn’s living expenses such as food and rent as she continues to remain focused towards her goal of winning the first Olympic gold medal for our country in her fourth time to qualify for the Olympics,” MVPSF president Al Panlilio said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski said she is not running for Philippine Olympic Committee president this November.
“I’m not eligible,” Cojuangco-Jaworski said in her short text message, when asked about her being a unifying candidate for the post, which will be contested by incumbent president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and archery’s Clint Aranas.
