MANILA, Philippines — Several PBA teams finally resumed training on Tuesday, a big first step toward the league’s goal of a season restart later this year.

Clubs haven’t been able to do workouts in their respective gyms until Tuesday after the league suspended its season and banned other team-related activities since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Practice already started earlier. Ginebra was the earliest at 7 a.m. then Rain or Shine at 8 a.m, Alaska, Blackwater at 9, San Miguel 10,” PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said in Filipino during Tuesday’s PSA Forum webcast.

Practices, which are limited to non-contact sessions, are done by batches as only six individuals are allowed to work out simultaneously, according to the PBA guidelines.

As part of its strict monitoring of the players and team personnel, Marcial said the league will conduct surprise visits in practice.

“We’re going to do surprise inspections. We have teams that will go around and check.”
