The idea of playing in a bubble environment similar to the NBA has drawn the support of several PBA coaches who expressed hope that the league’s 45th season can be salvaged if the league comes up with a viable plan and location.

“I think it’s a great idea,” Phoenix coach Louie Alas said on Wednesday, a day after board chair Ricky Vargas and league commissioner Willie Marcial announced that the PBA is now seriously considering the bubble just so the season can push through.

“If we’re going to go the extra mile to save the season, then we might as well do it.”

Alas’ statement was echoed by NLEX coach Yeng Guiao, who trusts the league to come up with a feasible plan.

“I think anything that will allow us to resume the games is great,” Guiao said. “I believe this is our best chance of saving the season.”

TNT KaTropa coach Bong Ravena also expressed excitement over the possibility of his team playing again after a long layoff.

“We’re just excited to be back playing,” said Ravena, whose two players—Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and Simon Enciso—are still in the United States attending to personal matters. “As professionals, this is our job.”

Alas and Guiao said the length of time spent away should be studied as it may affect the mental health of those entering the bubble.

“There may be mental health issues involved if the bubble takes some time,” Guiao said, noting that the NBA has provided some sort of entertainment and diversion for players while inside the bubble. “It’s a concern, but we have to make a sacrifice to play again.”
