MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-American featherweight John Leo Dato extended his unbeaten run to 15 after overwhelming Mexico’s Angel Guevara Saturday (Manila time) at Papas & Beer in Rosarito Beach, Baja, Mexico.

Dato was relentless and needed only three rounds to handle Guevara, who was knocked down in the third after a flurry of punches.

Guevara managed to get back up but Dato (15-0-1, 10 knockouts) went on to pummel the Mexican veteran against the ropes before the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

The win marked Dato’s 10th straight win while Guevara dropped to 16-15-4 and has now lost seven of his last eight bouts.

“15-0 (10 KOs!) on the mission. God is good. Thank you everyone for the support,” the 27-year-old Dato posted on Facebook.

The bout was Dato’s first this year after fighting six times in 2019, which included a fifth-round knockout win over Mexico’s Juan Antonio Lopez in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman headliner in Las Vegas.

Born to Filipino parents, Dato is originally from Bangar, La Union, but now resides in Santa Maria, California where he owns and operates the JLD Boxing Academy while also working as a personal fitness trainer.
