Next step for PBA: Transition to regular practices

Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner Willie Marcial, now that teams have begun having individual workout for its players, is even more hopeful that the league can salvage a part of its 45th Season before the year is over.

“We’re happy so far with how the individual workouts have been proceeding,” an upbeat Marcial told the Inquirer. “It makes us very hopeful.”

It is a sentiment shared by Abraham Mitra, the Games and Amusements Board chair who oversees the restart of professional sports in the country.

“Players seem so happy to finally shoot the basketball,” Mitra said.

Mitra said he has received reports that safety protocols are indeed in place.

“We would not want any transmission as it will have an [adverse] effect on other leagues in other sports,” Mitra said.

Teams returned to their workout facilities last Tuesday, and Marcial believes that they can have full scrimmages in the next few weeks, pending, of course, approval from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. INQ
