VETERAN long-distance runner Franklin Peñalosa emerged fastest in the Salomon Xtrail Pilipinas 2012, posting a 10-minute winning margin in the 24K centerpiece event held recently at the Tagaytay Highlands.
The 34-year-old Peñalosa, who hails from Camarines Sur, clocked two hours, 13 minutes and 43 seconds.
Pepito Deapera, whose biggest career win was the 2008 Guam Koko half marathon, came in second in 2:25:53 while Andrew Chinalpan was third in 2:27:14.
A total of 180 finishers made the cut off time set at four hours and 30 minutes.
The Salomon race is a global event promoting eco-friendly races. It is being held in various countries across Europe and Asia.
Participants were asked to use hydration belts and bottles to do away with the usual plastic cups at hydration stations.
Regie Lumauag clocked 1:01:17 to rule the 12K category, beating Rojan Pajarin (1:08:02) and Benjamin Balais (1:12:34).
The 6K division winners were Milbert Nabuab, 36:24; Mark Lourielle Santos, 37:29; and Michelle Ann Tibagacay, 41:59. Romina S. Austria
