MANILA, Philippines—It seems that TNT was left in the dark about Kelly Williams’ decision to retire from the PBA.
Team manager Gabby Cui said that the KaTropa only found out about Williams’ retirement through social media and that the 2008 MVP didn’t inform them of his decision.
Williams also left the team’s camp in Laguna on September 2 without telling anyone, according to Cui.
“Kelly Williams left our training camp on Sept. 2 without any notice or explanation until now,” said Cui in a text message Thursday. “He has not reached out to is ever since.”
“We learned about his decision to retire via social media.”
Cui said that Williams is considered absent without official leave (AWOL) from the team.
Williams, the top overall pick in 2006, is a six-time champion with five of those titles with TNT and the other one with Sta. Lucia in the 2008 Philippine Cup.
The 6-foot-6 forward announced on Monday that he was retiring after playing for 14 seasons.
