2010 PBA Rookie Draft Results

Former Ateneo stalwart and defensive specialist Nonoy Baclao was a suprise first overall pick of Air21 Sunday in the 2010 PBA Rookie Draft held at Market! Market! in the Fort.


Air 21 selected Ateneo’s Rabeh Al Hussaini and Letran’s Rey Guevarra as second and third picks, respectively. Alaska, who traded Larry Fonacier for a first round pick, selected UE’s Elmer Espiritu as its fourth pick. Rain or Shine, meanwhile, picked Josh Vanlandingham at fifth. 

Sean Michael Anthony was selected sixth by Air 21 while NCAA Standouts John Wilson of JRU and Jimbo Aquino of San Sebastian were netted by Barangay Ginbera as seventh and eighth picks.

UE’s Pari Llagas was selected ninth by B-MEG Derby Ace and Meralco, who traded Bon-bon Custodio to Alaska for a first round pick, selected Shawn Weinsten at 10th.

Meralco added another Bedan in its roster with the selection of BamBam Gamalinda as 11th overall pick. 

Ginebra went for another guard in Robert Labagala for its 12th pick. Meanwhile, fellow UE standout Val Acuna was picked up by B Meg Derby Ace after acquiring rights from Air 21. 

Ford Arao, another Ateneo standout, was selected by Meralco. Letran’s RJ Jazul went to Rain or Shine after Alaska’s draft pick trade. 

Lone pick in the draft from UST was Khasim Mirza who was selected by the Bolts. Borgie Hermida, star guard still playing for San Beda Red Lions, was selected as 17th overall pick for Barako Bull. 

Ateneo’s Jai Reyes was 18th overall pick for Powerade, then Marvin Hayes came in as the 21st pick for Alaska. Powerade and Air21 opted to pass on their 19th and 20th pick. Celest Flores, with reports from Mark Giongco
