MANILA, Philippines—Is Calvin Abueva finally allowed back in the PBA?
In an Instagram post on Friday, Abueva posted in a caption “comeback is real” a day after the PBA announced that it will resume the season in a bubble set-up in Clark, Pampanga starting October 9.
But there has been no announcement yet if Abueva has been reinstated in the PBA after serving a lengthy suspension that has lasted for more than a year, but his post piqued the curiosity of those who follow the league.
Although Abueva has been allowed to practice with Phoenix, he wasn’t able to even participate in the scrimmages prior to the start of the 2020 season.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said in the Zoom press conference Thursday that there’s no official word yet on Abueva’s status.
“We’ll see if Calvin will be able to get inside the bubble,” said Marcial.
Abueva has been suspended since June of 2019 following verbal altercations with Bobby Ray Parks’ girlfriend Maika Rivera and a physical confrontation with then TNT import Terrence Jones.
He was allowed to practice with the Fuel Masters in September but that’s the closest he got to PBA action as he was also banned from scrimmages.
