A man clad in a Boston Red Sox jersey sneaked into Fenway Park Sunday and held up play against the Yankees before he was escorted out by police.
The man, managed to scale Fenway Park’s Green Monster outfield wall and reach a catwalk below the outfield scoreboard used for positioning television cameras.
He threw items on the field and shouted as players from both teams, coaches and the umpires watched.
He was finally talked away from the edge of the platform and escorted out of the ballpark — where spectators are prohibited because of the coronavirus pandemic — by police.
The disruption came in the eighth inning of the Red Sox’s 10-2 victory over the Yankees, which snapped their American League East rivals’ 10-game winning streak.
Red Sox rookie pitcher Tanner Houck earned his second win in as many major league starts, throwing five no-hit innings before surrendering a Taylor Wade double.
He struck out four, including major league home run leader Luke Voit, giving up one hit and one unearned run with three walks before departing in the sixth.
He was ably backed up by the Red Sox offense, with all but one player in the lineup recording a hit.
“The game plan every time I go out is to go nine innings, complete game, perfect game,” Houck said in his postgame Zoom conference. “Obviously it doesn’t happen all the time but going deep into a game like that with a no-hitter is truly an unbelievable experience.”
Houck was especially pleased to experience first-hand the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.
“It’s a great rivalry that I remember watching growing up so to be a part of it was truly amazing,” he said.
