MANILA, Philippines — University of the Philippines welcomed its latest acquisition in former Gilas Pilipinas Youth member Bismarck Lina, the team announced Monday.

Lina, who starred for the UST Tiger Cubs in high school, made his transfer official after he was joined by UP head coach Bo Perasol in a meeting with team manager Agaton Uvero.

“We are very happy to welcome him to the team and we look forward to working and playing with him. Bismarck is a young man with a great fighting attitude and huge potential,” Perasol said.

The promising forward was the latest to exit España after UST found itself in hot water over its controversial training camp in Sorsogon amid the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

Eight players, including former captain CJ Cansino, have now left UST since the fiasco that could lead to a possible suspension from the UAAP.

Cansino was the first to leave the team and has since transferred to UP.
