De los Santos wins 11th gold; 2 Filipinas medal

MANILA, Philippines — James De los Santos continued his winning ways on Tuesday.

The Filipino karateka racked up his 11th gold medal after besting the competition in the Tokaido Maribor Open E-Tournament.

De los Santos blanked Matias Moreno, 5-0, in the e-Kata Individual Male Seniors Final.

His latest win closed the gap between him and world No. 1 Eduardo Garcia of Portugal, whom he beat just last Saturday for his 10th gold.

“I’m just a few more points away from the no. 1 spot. The grind must go on!” De los Santos posted on social media Tuesday night.

The 30-year-old De los Santos wasn’t the only Filipino to win a medal this time as a couple more in Fatima A-Isha Hamsain and Julia Ian Marcos also made the podium.

Hamsain claimed the gold in the e-Kata Individual Female U15 category while Marcos captured the bronze in the Individual Female U21.

“What made me happier was that there were also a few students from the MKKPI-JKS dojo that started competing in virtual kata. I’m very glad to have assisted them,” De los Santos said.
