MANILA, Philippines — James De los Santos continued his winning ways on Tuesday.
The Filipino karateka racked up his 11th gold medal after besting the competition in the Tokaido Maribor Open E-Tournament.
De los Santos blanked Matias Moreno, 5-0, in the e-Kata Individual Male Seniors Final.
His latest win closed the gap between him and world No. 1 Eduardo Garcia of Portugal, whom he beat just last Saturday for his 10th gold.
“I’m just a few more points away from the no. 1 spot. The grind must go on!” De los Santos posted on social media Tuesday night.
The 30-year-old De los Santos wasn’t the only Filipino to win a medal this time as a couple more in Fatima A-Isha Hamsain and Julia Ian Marcos also made the podium.
Hamsain claimed the gold in the e-Kata Individual Female U15 category while Marcos captured the bronze in the Individual Female U21.
“What made me happier was that there were also a few students from the MKKPI-JKS dojo that started competing in virtual kata. I’m very glad to have assisted them,” De los Santos said.
“Congrats to both of you girls! Continue training and competing because your performance will become stronger over time.”
