MANILA, Philippines—Calvin Abueva’s return to the PBA just got a massive boost after the Games and Amusements Board said it is set to reinstate his professional license following a lengthy ban from the PBA.
Abueva will still need to get a couple of more things done as required by GAB before he gets that long-awaited clearance to return to play.
GAB chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra said Abueva must undergo a seminar in The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete and sign that he will abide by it.
Abueva must also take a mandatory drug test as part of his medical requirements.

“Calvin Abueva was remorseful in what he did and was sincere enough to accept his wrongdoings and asked for an apology for his actions with a promise not to repeat the same mistakes and set a good example to the audience especially the young fans,” said Mitra in a statement.
GAB made the decision after they had a dialogue with Abueva before the Phoenix forward arrived in Clark, Pampanga for the PBA resumption of the 2020 season inside the bubble.
Abueva has been serving his suspension since June of 2019 after his verbal altercation with Maika Rivera, Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s girlfriend, and a physical scuffle against then TNT import Terrence Jones.
