MANILA, Philippines — Unbeaten featherweight Mark Magsayo hopes to deliver a rousing debut for MP (Manny Pacquiao) Promotions when he faces Rigoberto Hermosillo of Mexico Sunday (Manila time) at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

During Saturday’s weigh-in, Magsayo hit the scale at 127 pounds while Hermosillo came in at 126.6 pounds.

Magsayo (20-0, 14 KOs) was originally scheduled to fight Jose Haro but the American surprisingly announced his retirement on social media last Sept. 13.

But despite being just a replacement, Hermosillo (11-2-1, 8 KOs) isn’t expected to be a pushover.

“He’s fighting a tough Mexican. The guy doesn’t have a big record but he has a lot of fights amateur wise in Mexico,” MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons said recently.

The 25-year-old Magsayo trained at the Wild Card Gym under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach Freddie Roach and assistant Marvin Somodio.

The Magsayo-Hermosillo bout headlines the PBC Fight Night card on Fox Sports 1.
