MANILA, Philippines—Sarangani lit up Pool A in the third leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup with perfection in its group Sunday at Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba.
The Marlins, who struggled in their first two legs, took down Big Boss Cement-Porac 21-15 (9:07.5) in their first game and turned back Pasig-Sta. Lucia 21-19 (9:39) after Pamboy Raymundo’s heroics.
With his team down 17-18, Raymundo converted on an and-one opportunity to give Sarangani the lead with JC Escalambre hitting his own shot to put the Marlins at match point.
Cedrick Ablaza was able to salvage a point for Sta. Lucia but Raymundo, who had nine points in the game, quickly responded with up-and-under bucket to seal the victory.
“We had a slow start but when we saw that their lead was just five points then we just didn’t let up,” said Paul Sanga in Filipino. “Thank God we won.”
Gab Banal led Nueva Ecija to a comfortable 21-11 (4:30) win over Pagadian Rocky Sports, scoring a conference-high 15 points in the Pool B match.
Family’s Brand Sardines-Zamboanga City Chooks and Uling Roasters-Butuan also had successful openers in their third leg campaigns.
Zamboanga City Chooks brushed off Bicol-Paxful 3×3 pro 22-11 (6:11) in Pool C while Butuan dropped Palayan City 22-13 (6:43) in Pool D.
