MANILA, Philippines—Mexican legends Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales are planning to face each other for the fourth time, this time in an exhibition match on January 15 in Dallas.
As per ESPN Deportes, h/t BoxingScene.com, the two ring icons are looking to hold the four-round bout in Dallas, Texas and are hoping to have some sort of an audience.
This would be their first ring encounter after they completed their trilogy in 2004 when Barrera captured the WBC World super featherweight title from Morales via majority decision.
Barrera won the latter two fights in the trilogy with all three matches going to the judges’ scorecards.
The first and third contests were named “Fight of the Year” honors.
Morales, a World champion in four divisions, last fought in 2014 and suffered a third round knockout loss against welterweight champion Danny Garcia while Barrera, who held titles in three weight classes, knocked out Jose Arias in two rounds in 2011 for his final match.
Fierce rivals, who both faced Pacquiao several times in their careers, during their active years, the two Hall of Famers have now become good friends.
