MANILA, Philippines – Letran put on work in the second half and disposed of University of the East, 64-56, Friday in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at the Arena in San Juan.
The Knights, who bounced back from a taut opening day loss to Ateneo, threw their weight around in the paint and poured 25 points in the third period alone.
Explosive star guard Kevin Alas led all scorers with 17 points even as Jam Cortes dominated down low with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
But coach Louie Alas was displeased with his squad’s performance saying,”UE’s turnovers won the game for us. We were outrebounded and outhustled.”
Letran was outrebounded 36-53, especially in the offensive boards where it only had six compared to UE’s 20.
After struggling to contain the Knights’ bigs early in the second half, the Warriors turned to their defense in payoff period but were not able to trim the leader closer than eight points.
Roy Sumang was the lone Warrior who scored in double digits with 12 points along with seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.
